Mike Reiss, Globe Staff :
Kevin Faulk of the New England Patriots has been suspended without pay for the team’s first regular-season game and fined one additional game check for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. Faulk’s suspension for the Patriots' first regular-season game will begin on Saturday, August 30. He is eligible to return to the Patriots’ active roster on Monday, September 8 following the team’s September 7 opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jeff's Barr-ometer : Bad news. Faulk always has a great week one game because opponents seem to focus more on the big guns and Faulk as long as I can recall always has hurt teams who make that mistake. Mr. Faulk is a key cog in this offense and while this is not a knockout punch considering the newly aquired depth in their backfield, it may prove to be a hurtful body blow considering his overall knowlege of the offense , blltz pick-ups and his sneaky, slashing running style that has literally won games for the Pats from his work out of the backfield, as well as his recieving skills. Let's pray it doesn't take Laurence Maroney until December to heat up again.
