The Red Sox had the White Sox reeling and started the series with an 8-0 win last night at Fenway. So much for White Sox Manager's Ozzie Gullien's pep talk for his team. He boldly stated that his team had the Red Sox "right where they want them", coming off of a series against the Yankees. That's bulletin board material and Ozzie should know better than that.
Dice-K had perhaps his finest performance of the year filling in for the injured Josh Beckett. All he did was "Max Out" as Ozzie would say by fanning 7 batters and allowing only 2 hits and two walks for win # 16. He was dominant all night, ahead of the batters he faced in his pitch count and went eight superb innings. Dustin Pedroia also "maxed out" going 4-4 with three singles a double, scored three times and stole two bases. Oh and he had a walk to boot. "I worry more about Pedroia than I worry about Big Papi," Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Right now, I have to, because he's swinging the bat good. ... It's amazing how this kid shows up to the ballpark every day and plays the way he plays. He brings a lot of energy to the field." You didn't sound worried yesterday until you saw them up close and very personal. The Red Sox know what's on the line and they have been here plenty of times before. Boston banged out 15 hits with multiple 2 and 3 baggers. They were all over the basepads. Just a solid outing for Boston in general and a nice way to put Gullien's foot in his mouth. The teams will clash again tonight at 7:05.
