Boston Globe (Marc J. Spears) Darius Miles
The Sporting News (Sean Deveney) Michael Finley
An NBA source said the Celtics remain interested in free agent forward Darius Miles, who hasn't played the last two seasons because of a knee injury . . .
Speculation around the league, though, has Finley looking at league powers like the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. "There are other teams, championship-caliber teams that want Michael," Thomas said.
Pure Speculation: The Darius Miles / Boston Celtics link could turn out to be an important one for the following reasons, the obvious reason first, the Celts could be the team that finally gets Miles' full and healthy potential on a night in-night out basis. Injury and immature off the court antics in his past aside "D-Miles" is a 6-10 multi dimensional talent who is still in his prime years of expected production. Darius would help give Boston an interesting trio of long athletic bodies patrolling the parquet when paired with Kevin Garnett and Patrick O'Bryant (especially from a shot blocking standpoint!). Now the second and final reason, we all are aware by now of the salary-cap implications facing Portland as a result of a possible Miles to Boston move, so keeping that in mind would a secret back-room talk/wink between the Celtics and Blazers come into play here? What I am getting at is this, the C's could pass on Darius Miles for the sake of Kevin Pritchard's financial future while at the same time maybe taking the attractive end of a transaction involving the two teams.....
"Fin" would provide Coach Glenn Rivers with the first true fire-power he has had in a 6th man role since having "Ricky being Ricky" 3 years ago. By himself Finley would be an upgrade over last year's veteran role players (Sam Cassell and P.J. Brown)! Need I remind you that Celtics Cheif Danny Ainge and Michael Finley have a long standing relationship that goes back to the Danny Ainge era in Phoenix, Arizona. When I talk with Danny
I will give him my stamp of approval on Finley and Miles.
