The Boston Red Sox are in Tampa, FL to start a three game series against The Tampa Bay Rays and most of the players say they are just there to play ball, downplaying the "bad blood" between these ball clubs. I beg to differ. The first pitch from either team that's high and
tight, or if a player happens to get beaned even accidentally may get tempers to flare. Check out the link I placed here from the Herald and see for yourself a slide show of two teams that don't seem to care much for the other.
Justin Masterson (4-1) 3.43 ERA will start tonight for Boston and James Sheilds (5-5) 3.76 ERA will get the ball for Tampa. Shields has beaten Boston once this season, in April 27's game at
Tropicana Field, but sports an impressive 1.99 ERA in home starts. In Masterson's last start he
allowed four runs on seven hits against Arizona on Tuesday. Both teams have swept the series at home when they have met which does not bode well for Boston who are now looking up at the Rays from second place down by 1/2 game. The Red Sox need a spark right now and this could be just what the Dr. ordered. A heated series in which both teams are actually playing for something meaningful. First place. Let's see if the boys can behave themselves and just play ball or else "There Will Be Blood".
Game time is set for 7:10 ET and NESN will televise. WEEI has the call on the radio.
