After another rain delay the Arizona Diamondbacks looked as if they had the Sox number once again leading 4-1 after seven innings. Then the slumbering Sox awoke and a four run rally erupted in the eighth inning giving Boston a 5-4 victory at Fenway Park.
Dustin Pedroia hit a solo Home Run off of Doug Davis in the first inning before Davis settled down and allowed just two hits until the eighth . Julio Lugo and Jacoby Ellsbury singled off of Davis to start the eighth and Davis gave way to Chad Qualls who couldn't stop the sudden surge from the Sox.
Pedroia singled home Lugo and Mike Lowell followed with a two run double to knot it up at four apiece setting the table for Jason Varitek who has been struggling at the plate. "Tek" hit an RBI single to give Boston the go ahead run. The hit was just the second in the last eight games for "Tek" but hits like this one can stop a skid for a struggling player.
Justin Masterson got a no decision thanks to the late run support and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out for his 22nd save of the season.
