After the August signings of Billy "Cloud" Walker and Darius "Green" Miles to go along with the Sept. 29th signing of "Sam I Am" Cassell from Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge this very well could be the roster we start the defense of the 2008 NBA Championship with and I have zero complaints or questions to offer up. Now that doesn't mean I will not submit my usual speculation on what "The Dealer" could be up to next. Speaking of speculation I want to hear from all of our Members and Guests in our Comments, Forum or Chat Room on this topic. Do you feel Danny is done with his Off-Season maneuvering or are you of the opinion that there is still unfinished business for the Boston GM?
Danny as always will continue to scour the latest happenings and trends on the Free-Agent Market just in case that "right guy for the right price" comes calling (see Alonzo Mourning, Bonzi Wells, Dikembe Mutombo, Damon Stoudamire, Stephon Marbury, P.J. Brown, Fred Jones, Kirk Snyder, David Harrison, among others who are looking for one last dance under the champagne shower) in a similar fashion to the way Sam Cassell has in recent days. Plenty of past Documentation proves that a trade is a constant possibility for this Franchise under the watch of number forty four, DO NOT NAP ON DAN! So I've been told...
2009 Boston Celtics Roster (Defending NBA Champions)
#5 - Kevin Garnett - 7-0, PF - Farragut Academy (IL)
#34 - Paul Pierce - 6-6, SF - Kansas * 2008 NBA Finals MVP *
#20 - Ray Allen - 6-5, SG - UConn (Hear me out on this one, I LOVE RAY ALLEN, I DON'T WANT THE CELTICS TO TRADE RAY ALLEN and I'm 99.9% sure that DANIEL AINGE DOESN'T WANT TO TRADE RAY ALLEN but at the same time it would be pure foolishness to ignore the fact that Allen is the oldest member of the "Big 3". "Sugar" Ray is also the proud owner of a Maximum Contract that expires in 2010 and around these parts we are well aware of the fact that the only feasible way to get a younger future Hall of Famer that makes Max loot is to unload Allen's $ at some point between now and the trade deadline of 2010. For the last time on the record, my best case scenario would be Ray-Ray re-signing with us for the Mid-Level or less in the summer of 2010 and with the savings you go get yourself the best player available in that highly touted FA class to complete the "Boston 4-Play"!
#9 - Rajon Rondo - 6-1, PG - Kentucky
#43 - Kendrick Perkins - 6-10, C - Clifton J. Ozen (TX)
#4 - J.R. Giddens - 6-5, SG - New Mexico
#12 - Bill Walker - 6-6, SF - Kansas St.
#42 - Tony Allen - 6-4, SG - Oklahoma St.
#7 - Darius Miles - 6-9, SF - East St. Louis HS (IL) ("D-Mile" has limited salary protection on the 1yr. veteran minimum deal he signed with Boston in August.)
#0 - Leon Powe - 6-8, PF - California (Leon has an expiring deal at seasons end which could make him highly attractive in future trade discussions.)
#26 - Patrick O'Bryant - 7-0, C - Bradley#86 - Semih Erden - 7-0, C - Turkey (The Celtics own the rights to Erden and will sign him following the expiration of his pro contract that he has back in his homeland. Semih will be a member of the 2010 Boston Celtics and will not count toward the 15 man roster in 09.)
#11 - Glen Davis - 6-8, PF - LSU ("The Large Infant" as fellow NESB Author Steve Smith likes to call him will be a Free-Agent July 1st of 2009. If he can continue to shed weight and up his game in the upcoming months he to will become possible trade bait in the meantime.)
#50 - Eddie House - 6-1, PG - Arizona St. (The 2nd year of Eddie's recently signed deal w/Boston has a player option on the second year which means there is a possibility he could be on the trading market near the deadline.)
#13 - Gabe Pruitt - 6-4, PG - USC
#28 - Sam Cassell - 6-4, PG - Florida St. (Sammy is in Boston on a one year Vet. Min. Deal w/ limited Salary Protection and could be used as trade filler prior to the NBA Trade Deadline.)
#44 - Brian Scalabrine - 6-9, SF - USC (Scal Should be the lone Celtic on the trading block due to the following contractual details: $3,206,897. in 09 and 3,413,793. in 10)
- The Boston Celtics have at their disposal the following Free-Agent Exceptions: * Mid-Level (The mid-level exception has $2.885 million left on it for use on the 2008-09 roster.), * Bi-Annual ( Just under 2 Mil.) and of course any * Veteran Minimum Deals they have the roster room for. The Celtics are however over their Salary Cap Limit for the upcoming 2009 Season (NBA Salary cap is set at $58.680 million, Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $71.150 million.) and can't hand out any * Maximum Deals.
