Bob Ryan has ripped Bill Belichick a new one in an article published on May 18 and here are a few excerpts
from this damning piece on Bill : "The sports community now associates the Patriots with cheating. The
three Super Bowl championships are, and forever will be, under
suspicion. The thought will never go away." That is bad and sad at the same time. How about this, "The Patriots have been irrevocably stained. They will be, in the eyes
of many, the reverse Black Sox. They will be the team that broke the
rules. Their three Super Bowls will be regarded as ill-gotten gain."
Wow! His words are harsh and brutal to the point of calling him out as a black mark on the franchise's storied history. Here is some more. "Bob Kraft should be livid, now he has to live with the reality that he presides over the most despised and reviled franchise in all of contemporary American sport, and all because the coach he trusted has betrayed him."
"There is no way out. As long as Bill Belichick is the coach of the New England Patriots, America will despise this team. But a resignation or a dismissal would only lend legitimacy to the entire concept of wrongdoing. This is not what Bob Kraft had in mind."
Ryan is out of line in my opinion for speaking on behalf of Robert Kraft who brought football to the highest level ever seen in New England under the coaching of Mr. Belichick. Does he have to exaggerate this much to chide Belichick. Hell no. New England fans should be upset wit
h him for putting those words out there. "Most despised and reviled franchise"? That's a bit much Bob.
Bill is having the last laugh now that the spygate story turned out to be an overambitious writer who jumped the gun and published news that had no credibility. If you are a Patriots fan you should read his piece because it sounds as if he is speaking from both sides of his mouth. At some points he doesn't know whether to compliment Belichick or despise him for the video incident. Whatever the case it was an interesting read.
