Matsuzaka has not been feeling well since last week but in five innings he did his job despite giving up a career high eight walks but only two hits and one earned run. I think his critics should back off some because the guy is leaving it all on the field.
Craig Hanson just called up gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings and Hideki Okajima also threw for 1 2/3 of scoreless ball while the steady and reliable Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth and got his tenth save on the year in ten outings. Remember Bob Stanley, with him you never knew if he was going save it or if he was going to give up the big bomb to lose the game. Sorry Bobby but it was true. It is such a "relief" those days have past. I just couldn't resist the relief pun.
The Sox bats are heating up again after a short drought banging out 11 hits and three home runs.
They still have to be the favorite despite the improvement of many other clubs.
It is very rare to give up eight walks and still win but it happens and the Sox now have a four game winning streak.
The Tigers could only manage five hits but got three runs which points to the fact that they are still a team who will be around in September.
By the way our old pal Curt Schilling is going to be throwing some pitches on Tuesday, that would be great to get him back but in the meantime let's give credit to our farm system who are coming to the show and making it happen, especially the young arms! Out of the hands of babes.
