Jon Lester goes eight innings and and tosses a one hitter as Boston beat Toronto 1-0 in a pitchers duel to en
d their five game losing streak. Lester pitched his best game of the season and it came when the Sox were in dire need of their starter to go as long as he could and rest the bullpen for a change. He allowed only four walks while striking out six in his fine performance. Toronto's Roy Halladay's outing on the hill was just as impressive striking out six, allowing only one walk and pitching a complete game. A game a pitcher would normally win if it weren't for the one run he gave up in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and 2 men on base.
One out away from extra innings Halladay walked David Ortiz then Manny Ramirez followed that with a single moving Ortiz into scoring position. Next up came Kevin Youkilis who drilled a ball to center field in front of Jays outfielder Vernon Wells who bobbled it which negated a possible throw to make a play on Ortiz at home plate and as simple as that the game was over.
Honorable mention must be made of Dustin Pedroia's outstanding diving play at second base robbing Wells of a sure hit which would of scored Scott Rolen who had previously doubled off of Jonathan Papelbon who came on in the ninth to get the save.
Maybe the Blue Jays are as good as everyone is saying of them since they seem to be a thorn in our side in each of the four games we've played them thus far. The series continues Wednesday evening with Daisuke Matsuzaka throwing against Dustin McGowan at 7:05 PM.
