Slumping David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez were the catalyst's of a late rally to lift the Red Sox to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers Saturday night. Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton opened the scoring with a solo home run up and over the Green Monster in the first inning. The Sox answered in their bottom half with a double by Jacoby Ellsbury who advanced to third on a throwing error which allowed Dustin Pedroia to reach first safely.
Ellsbury then scored when Ortiz grounded into a double play. Manny Ramirez then walked but Kevin Youkilis doubled him home from first which is impressive considering how Manny's been widely criticized in the past for lackluster baserunning. Sox starter Jon Lester got touched for a run in each of the first three innings and then proceeded to scatter 10 hits, 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. After giving up two runs Rangers pitcher Jason Jennings cruised for six innings only giving up three hits until giving way to relievers Jason Wright and Joaquin Benoit. It was Benoit who caved in to the Sox big bats. In the eighth, Ortiz tied the game with an RBI single followed by Manny's mammoth game winning two run homer which would have left the entire ballpark had it not bounced of the light tower. Since Ortiz joined the Red Sox in 2003, the pair have been the heart of Boston's order, combining for 396 homers.
The Red Sox had a moment of silence before the game for former catcher John Marzano, 45, who died earlier in the day. He played for the club from 1987-92.
