Jimmy Golen, AP Sportswriter reports :
Kevin Garnett offered polite praise of the Miami Heat before Paul Pierce interrupted the postgame news conference and said, “Man, I am going to tell you the truth." Then he did.
“They got D-Leaguers out there, so I think we just handled our business,” the Boston forward said, listing some of the five Miami players who spent time in the developmental league this season. “We’re supposed to do that. We knew this was a game we were supposed to win, and we just focused from the jump and went out and did it.”Then he slapped Garnett on the head and said, “Let’s go.”
Kevin Garnett is a class act but Paul Pierce had to tell it like it is. The team with the best record in the NBA (58 - 15) played the team with the absolute worst record (13 - 60) while resting their
starters early to get ready for the playoffs. Just look at Ricky ( "Please don't look at me" ) Davis , and you can see a team getting "schooled" by the bench players of Boston. Leon Powe played the most minutes clocking 27 while throwing down 17 points to go with his 13 rebounds. James Posey played 21 minutes and the bench at one point led by as much as 31 points. To add insult to injury the Celtics defense held Miami to just 17 baskets which are the fewest in the NBA's shot clock era. Everyone can talk about the Western Conference and their powerhouse teams, but they all know there is a team in "beantown" that is no joke! Hurry up and let's get into some playoff basketball. It is on!
