In Dallas the Boston Celtics beat the Mavericks 94-90 on Thursday and finished a 3-0 sweep of what is popularly known as "The Texas Triangle". The Mavs , Rockets, and Spurs were all victims of the tenacious Celts who are playing with a sense of purpose and a defense that is lights out. They have not been at their best on offense as of late, but they are playing team defense and guys are stepping up in key situations with important baskets when they are most needed.
If you were to look at the stats it would appear as if Dirk Nowitzki was dominating the glass with 24 points and 19 rebounds, But Kevin Garnett shut him down, allowing him only two points in the 4th quarter. Jason Kidd was invisible scoring only 1 basket (laughable) but had 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Celtics are making a statement to the entire league by winning another game in the final minutes. Who is hungrier when the game is on the line and you must dig deep to get the win. It looks to be the Celtics who took 18 free throws in the 4th quarter alone. With Ray Allen back in the lineup, his 3 point shot with 31 seconds left was the dagger in the hearts of the Mavs who lost for only the sixth time at home this season.
The big 3 all hit double digits as Paul Pierce had 22, Allen had 21 and Garnett finished with 20. People have been a little critical of Garnett who has had some shooting trouble but they shouldn't be. His defense and hustle are always 100% and his 2 free throws in the final minutes were critical to this win. James Posey who spelled Allen for most of the 4th quarter added 12 points and stated after the game that "This team is a family and plays unselfish basketball." The box score is very prophetic.
