Boston Herald (Steve Buckley) Beckett Makes Progress, But Japan's Out
Quote this article on your siteNot that it’s what you’d call a news flash, but Red Sox righthander Josh Beckett, who has been sidelined throughout spring training with a back injury, will be staying behind when the team leaves for Japan this week.
“At this point, it looks like he will (remain in Fort Myers),” said Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell this morning, after a flat-ground throwing session with Beckett at City of Palms Park. “I know that will be made more official through Tito,” said Farrell, referring to Sox manager Terry Francona. “Given the throwing program, that’s probably likely.” But fear not. Farrell was very optimistic following the session with Beckett, with consisted of 25 throws at 60 feet and 10 throws at 75 feet. “The fact that he feels nothing in there is a clear indication that the inflamation has subsided and now we’ll take the appropriate steps to build him up to bullpen (throwing), the target of which would be Thursday,” said Farrell. “The good news for us is there was no restriction as far as his back is concerned.”
